About me

The Rev. Dr. Samuel B. Reeves, Jr. is an inspiring man with a hope-filled vision of faith, a powerful community leader, a theological scholar and a transformational pastor. He is a family man who enjoys spending quality time with his wife, son, and extended family and friends. Born in Monrovia, Liberia, Dr. Reeves is a son whose parents emphasized educational achievements, personal integrity, and community service.

He matriculated at Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary, and earned a B.Th. in Theological Studies. He also graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity and Doctor of Minister Degrees. While Co-Pastor of the Madison Square Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids Michigan, Rev Reeves formed a relationship of mutual giving and receiving with Providence Baptist Church. As Senior Pastor of Providence Baptist Church, where he has been serving for the past 12 years, Dr. Reeves has made Providence one of the most social and politically conscious churches in Liberia. His outreach ministries ring with preferential treatment for the poor, the vulnerable and hurting. He currently ministers to and feeds about 500 homeless men, women and children. He is in the process of building a Homeless Second-Chances Model Center, with vision of senior house complexes. He has built the DeVos Village, comprising of a Medical Center, a High School, an IT Center, Housing Unites, etc, located in the Bo-Waterside region where he ministers to and forms inter-religious dialogue with Muslims and peoples of other faith practices.

Dr. Reeves has established strategic plans of extending his vision of Christian Education to other regions of Liberia, ranging from childcare programs for low income families to after-schools programs for battered boys and girls. As a result of Dr. Reeves’ commitment to Education, Providence has provided opportunities for 7 pastors to achieve ministerial scholarships in the United States. The congregation has ordained several trained deacons and pastors under Rev. Reeves’ leadership.

Dr. Reeves is co-founder of the National Institute of Leadership, Former National Vice President of the Liberian Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention, Inc., President, of the Liberian Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention, Inc. and Adjunct Professor at Liberia Baptist Seminary. He has established a summer internship ministry with Princeton Theological Seminary for ministers to receive cross-cultural pastoral experiences. He has published, Congregational – To-Congregation Relationship and was invited by HE, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, as the Inaugural Thanksgiving Service Speaker, to usher in the president’s second term as president of the Republic of Liberia.

Dr. Reeves is the authored of Congregation to Congregation Relationship: A Case Study of the Partnership between a Liberian Church and a North American Church.  He welcomes conversations with individuals, congregations, and mission agencies that are interested in this account of how cross-cultural partnership can transform the lives of people and faith communities into new understandings of mission in this globalized village.
